Where is Fort McMurray
Welcome to the Wood Buffalo region. Fort McMurray is a new and vibrant city with a population of just over 100,000 people. This young community grew overnight and quickly became Canada's Energy Capital.
Fort McMurray or Fort Mc as the locals refer to it, is located 435km northeast of Edmonton on highway 63. This city's major draw is the booming economy based on oil, natural gas, pipeline sectors, forestry and tourism. There is $125 Billion dollars invested in the Athabasca Oil Sands over the next decade and the economy is still going strong.
Besides oil, Fort McMurray and its' surrounding regions has a lot to offer. Take time and enjoy the wild outdoors in the Wood Buffalo National Park. Go hiking, canoeing or fishing in Canada's largest national park. This beautiful area has some of the last free roaming buffalo left and endangered whooping crane populations. Allow your adventurous side to run wild by going on ATV rides or snowmobile rides or take in the majestic northern lights.
Within the city, stop by the Boomtown Casino and take in some live entertainment or have fun in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
This great community is never short of something exciting to do.
